Command the Room: Executive Presence & Gravitas

Executive presence is one of those phrases that gets dropped into feedback conversations without anyone being willing to define it. 'She has it.' 'He doesn't quite have it yet.' What it almost always means is the same thing: when this person speaks, the room believes them.

Command the Room unpacks presence into components you can actually work on — voice, pacing, posture, composure, language — and gives you targeted practice on each. It's for senior leaders and high-potentials who are no longer competing on technical competence, and whose next promotion or next funding round depends on how they show up, not just what they say.

Newly-promoted executives

Stepping into bigger rooms for the first time and finding the old delivery style no longer lands.

High-potentials in leadership development

Programme overview

Create credibility

What we cover

  • First impressions — how fast, intuitive judgments shape whether the room takes you seriously, and the signals that drive them
  • Filler sounds — reducing unconscious verbal tics to project clarity and composure
  • Body language on camera — posture, gesture, eye contact, and framing calibrated for online and hybrid settings

Format

1 or 2 days · Video-based practice with personalised feedback · Small groups of 6–10 · Delivered in Madrid, onsite, or online · Often combined with 1:1 follow-up coaching for senior executives

From a recent participant

“After 6 months of coaching I can say that the effort and work put in by both of us has clearly borne fruit. I have recovered the security that characterized me, and am far more able to improvise.”

What participants say

More from the room

I've had voice coaches before. Matt is the first one who made the changes feel like mine, not a performance.

Two weeks after the workshop, three senior colleagues independently told me I'd changed on stage. That's the ROI right there.

Frequently asked questions

Isn't 'presence' either innate or fake?

Neither. It's a set of visible, coachable behaviours — voice, language, pacing, composure, eye contact, posture, silence. We don't try to turn anyone into someone else; we work with your natural range and extend it.

I've been told I come across as too soft / too aggressive / too flat. Can this help?

Yes — those are three of the most common profiles we see, and each has its own path. The workshop diagnoses where you sit on several axes and targets the shifts that matter for your role.

Does this apply to online and on-camera settings, or only to physical rooms?

Both. A core module is devoted to how posture, gesture, eye contact, and framing translate on camera. For hybrid leaders, that translation often matters more than the in-room version.

Can this be delivered in Spanish?

Yes. Matt coaches in English and Spanish and often in bilingual rooms. Presence work translates; the cultural calibration does need attention, and that's built into how the workshop is delivered in Madrid.

How does this pair with 1:1 coaching?

Many senior leaders use the workshop as a diagnostic and then follow with 1:1 coaching to embed changes. That combination is the fastest path for people who don't have time for slow improvement.
