Your Essential Story

A business storytelling and messaging workshop for people whose work is genuinely interesting — but who can hear themselves making it sound boring.

Your Essential Story: Business Storytelling & Messaging

Every business worth anything has a story worth telling. The problem is that most of the time, the people closest to that story are the worst placed to tell it. They know too much, they've said it too many times, and they've sanded down the sharp edges that made it compelling in the first place.

Your Essential Story is a workshop for pulling that story back out. It combines narrative craft with business reality: participants leave not with a polished myth, but with a reusable toolkit of hooks, frames, and phrases that work across decks, emails, talks, and product copy. The aim is that your story sounds like you — on your best day.

What participants say

More from the room

We had a pitch deck that was technically right and emotionally flat. Matt helped us find the story underneath — and we closed our Series A.

The frameworks are simple enough to remember and sharp enough to use in the same afternoon. That combination is rare.

Frequently asked questions

Is this about storytelling theory or actual work?

Actual work. Theory shows up only where it changes what you do on Monday. The bulk of the workshop is rewriting your own material, with live feedback.

Our product is genuinely complicated. Can narrative really simplify it?

Narrative doesn't simplify the product — it changes what you lead with. The workshop is designed for complex offers: deep tech, regulated industries, scientific research, enterprise platforms. The tools work harder there, not less.

Can this help us align messaging across sales, marketing, and product?

Yes — and this is one of the most valuable outcomes for bigger organisations. When everyone leaves with the same spine and vocabulary, downstream content gets dramatically more consistent.

What do participants bring?

Their current pitch, about-page, origin story, or equivalent. Anything that represents how they currently explain what they do is workable material.

Do we need a writer on the team to benefit?

No. Most participants aren't writers. The tools are designed to be usable by anyone who has to explain their work — which is almost everyone above a certain level.
